The12 Art Collection

"The12" is far more than the headquarters of SoundCapital. It is a physical expression of a shared mindset—shaped by partnership, long-term thinking, openness to new perspectives, and a commitment to excellence in all its forms.

This philosophy is reflected not only in the architecture, materials and spatial design, but also extends seamlessly into the art collection. The The12 Art Collection views art not as decoration, but as an integral part of a broader concept in which brand, corporate culture, space and artistic expression engage in an ongoing dialogue.

The collection brings together contemporary works spanning photography, video art and conceptual art. The selected pieces explore themes such as perception, memory, identity, culture and partnership—subjects that equally shape the way individuals and organisations think, act and evolve.

Each work has been chosen with great care. Not because it merely illustrates corporate values, but because it reflects fundamental aspects of how we think and operate: the willingness to embrace new perspectives, an appreciation for quality and permanence, the importance of meaningful partnerships, and the conviction that lasting success is built on curiosity, reflection and long-term vision.

In this way, the collection represents a natural extension of what SoundCapital stands for. It complements the spaces of The12 not only aesthetically, but also by adding an additional layer of meaning and interpretation. The artworks invite viewers to pause, look more closely and discover connections—between art and space, between people and ideas, and between past, present and future.

The The12 Art Collection is ultimately founded on a simple belief: excellence emerges where diverse perspectives come together and where space is created for inspiration, dialogue and new ways of thinking.

Jessica Backhaus
Cut Outs, 2022
Fine Art Prints · 75×112 cm

The Artwork
Backhaus

In her award-winning series Cut Outs, Jessica Backhaus explores the very essence of photography: light, colour, form, and shadow. The works are created through the staging of translucent coloured papers exposed to natural sunlight. Influenced by warmth, movement, and the unique characteristics of the material itself, organic shapes and unexpected gradations of shadow emerge, which the artist captures through photography.

The result is a collection of abstract compositions distinguished by their remarkable luminosity and visual precision. The works combine conceptual clarity with emotional resonance, inviting viewers to form their own associations and interpretations. Cut Outs exemplifies Jessica Backhaus’s ability to transform seemingly simple elements into images of extraordinary strength, elegance, and timeless relevance.

Michael Schuster
Lichtbild 2021/38, 2022
Collage, dried leaves on paper · 100×140 cm

The Artwork
Schuster

Lichtbild 2021/38 integrates seamlessly into the natural materiality of the Lake room. The Swiss stone pine table, the untreated clay plaster, the stone flooring and the wall surfaces crafted from natural fibres all find a visual counterpart within the work itself.

Composed from carefully arranged dried leaves, the collage reveals different spatial dimensions depending on the viewer’s perspective. Light, shadow and materiality continuously shift with the angle of observation, lending the work a remarkable sense of depth and vitality.

The piece reflects on themes of memory, transience and the ways in which lived experiences are preserved. In an increasingly digital world, Schuster’s work serves as a reminder of the beauty of the analogue and of the traces that time leaves behind.

The Artist

Born in 1963, Berlin-based artist Michael Schuster is best known for his intricate collages created from dried leaves.

Many of his works originate from personal photographs, which he transforms through processes of reduction, layering and the incorporation of organic materials. The resulting images occupy a space between reality and memory, documentation and interpretation.

Schuster’s works have been exhibited internationally and are recognised for their poetic exploration of the relationship between nature, time and remembrance.

Daniel Cherbuin
Plante Crevette, 2022
Wood, glass, LCD screen · 100 × 100 cm

The Artwork

Plante Crevette by Daniel Cherbuin combines movement, colour and perception into a compelling visual experience. The luminous yellow blossoms give the work a striking presence and create an immediate point of engagement. At the same time, the video installation unfolds a subtle and continuous dynamism, repeatedly guiding the viewer’s attention in new directions.

Particularly distinctive are the ever-moving eyes that appear as a recurring motif throughout Cherbuin’s artistic practice. They observe, reflect and question simultaneously, creating a tension between perception and interpretation, between what is visible and what remains concealed.

The work was consciously selected for SoundCapital’s collection because it powerfully visualises the value of multiple perspectives. It invites viewers to move beyond familiar ways of seeing and embrace alternative viewpoints – an attitude that lies at the heart of both artistic exploration and long-term thinking.

The Artist

Born in 1971, Swiss artist Daniel Cherbuin lives and works between Zurich, Switzerland, and Miami, United States. Emerging from Zurich’s underground cultural scene in the 1990s, he began his career as a filmmaker, collaborating with artists and bands including Yello and Division Kent.

Cherbuin is recognised for his distinctive visual language, which combines the imagery of 1960s popular culture with contemporary cinematic techniques. His works blend humour, visual precision and narrative depth, contributing significantly to bringing contemporary video art to a wider audience.

His work is regularly presented at Photo Basel during Art Basel week, and today forms part of important private and institutional collections around the world.

Daniel Allen Cohen
SoundCapital × Wealth Management × Partnership, 2026
Collage · 75 × 75 cm

The Artwork

This three-part series was created exclusively for SoundCapital by Miami-based artist Daniel Allen Cohen and commissioned specifically for the spaces of The12.

The works are built around the three defining pillars of the company: SoundCapital as an organisation, Wealth Management as its strategic focus, and its partnership-driven platform as a key differentiator. Through his distinctive visual language, Cohen translates the identity of the firm into a sophisticated composition that merges elements of popular culture, symbolism and conceptual art.

A defining characteristic of the series is its rich network of intentionally embedded references and symbols. Abbreviations such as "SC" and "PM" refer to key elements of SoundCapital’s corporate universe. Numbers such as "2012" reference the company’s founding year, "55" the people who shape SoundCapital today, and "100" the aspiration of unwavering commitment—both to clients and to the partnership itself.

Each of these so-called “ingredients” tells part of the company’s story. The works invite viewers to continuously discover new details and decode the multiple layers embedded within the compositions. In doing so, they become a visual archive of SoundCapital’s culture, identity and values.

The Artist

Born in 1987, Daniel Allen Cohen is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Miami, Florida, USA. He is widely recognised for his ability to transform elements of popular culture into layered conceptual works of art.

Cohen gained international recognition through his acclaimed series This Is Addictive, in which he reinterpreted social behaviours and modern forms of addiction through the visual structure of the periodic table. The series is regarded as a defining milestone in his artistic development and established his reputation among collectors and institutions worldwide.

His works combine humour, social commentary and cultural references with an exceptional level of detail and craftsmanship. Today, Cohen’s works are exhibited internationally and form part of numerous private, corporate and institutional collections.
